This year’s grants will total $2 million USD. The awards are available through two channels: an open call for applications and a regional events series. The open call allows eligible organizations globally to apply online for up to $500,000 USD to support their projects.

Additionally, a series of global events will offer technical guidance and mentorship to applicants. These events will address urgent local themes identified by civil society groups, businesses, NGOs, and policymakers such as agriculture, health tech, and cultural preservation. Attendees at these events will also compete for specialized awards of up to $100,000 USD, in addition to the open call awards.

The Inaugural Llama Impact Grants

Last year’s inaugural Llama Impact Grants program demonstrated the potential of Meta’s open-source AI models, Llama 2 and Llama 3, in addressing global challenges. The program received over 800 applications from more than 90 countries. Finalist projects included a Llama-powered math teacher assistant and AI models connecting the information gap in maternal healthcare.

The diversity and innovation seen in these projects have inspired Meta to expand the program.  Even more groundbreaking uses of Llama 3.1 in the coming year.
