AI Accountability Fellowship Program

 

The AI accountability fellowship program is open for application. The fellowship is for journalists who are working on artificial intelligence accountability stories. The stories must be relevant to the government and other corporations' use of surveillance and predictive technologies.  They must be focused on subjects such as policy making, medicine, social welfare, hiring, the criminal justice system, and more.    


The deadline for the fellowship 2024 is August 10, 2024. It is a 10-month fellowship where the journalists can have up to $20,000 to support their projects. These funds are for records requests, travel, data analysis and stipends. The Pulitzer Center provides this fellowship. 


The fellows will have 90-minute meetings every month. They will be engaged with other fellows in virtual meetings. The fellowship will start in September 2024 and last in July 2025.

Eligibility Criteria for the Fellowship Program


To be eligible for the program, you must be:

  • Staff or freelance journalists working on various platforms, including print, radio, video, and multimedia.

  • Team players with the experience and ability to work collaboratively across newsrooms and borders.

  • Reporters with a deep interest in how AI impacts the world, and why this issue matters to our global well-being.

  • Reporters are willing to participate in outreach activities related to their investigations, such as events at schools, universities, and public-facing events.

  • Reporters can be based anywhere. The Fellowships are remote.


What do you need to apply for this fellowship?

To apply for this fellowship you must provide:

  • Statement of purpose (500 words) 

  • Detailed Reporting Project Proposal (500 words)

  • Budget (including costs for records, software, data analysis, travel and stipend)

  • Published stories (three best stories from the past three years)

  • Letter of Commitment 

  • Professional reference (Three)

  • Resume/Curriculum Vitae
